Not only are yoga and meditation great for mind, body and soul, but also these practices are helpful tools for booze breaks. In fact, a regular meditation or yoga practice (or better yet, both), can help curb cravings due to the positive impact on areas of the brain that regulate self-control. There are simply too many other benefits to list here, so let’s just say that the Drink Fit Club believes wholeheartedly in adding yoga and meditation into your alcohol free toolbox. So much so, that we are working on myriad ways to add it into our offerings.

Drink Fit Club Founder Melanie Warner Spencer, 200-hour RYT, has been a yoga and meditation practitioner for more than 20 years. In 2021, Melanie earned a 200-hour yoga teacher certification through the Yoga Alliance-approved My Vinyasa Practice in Austin, Texas. (Disclosure: Melanie is an MVP affiliate and earns 15 percent of the course fee when students purchase courses using her affiliate link). Melanie is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance.

As part of her deep commitment to continuing her yogic education, Melanie is currently working on a 300-hour certification and trauma-informed yoga certification through MVP.

Mindfulness meditation is an integral part of Melanie’s daily routine. In addition to many years of self-study, Melanie trained in the online, beta, meditation teacher course of The Mindfulness Center, a nonprofit wellness Institute in Maryland, founded in 2009, by Deborah Norris, Ph.D., director of the Psychobiology of Healing program in the Department of Psychology at American University.

Fascinated by the concept of collective consciousness, prana (the Sanskrit word for breath or “life force”) and balance our prana or vibrational energy (the frequency at which living organisms vibrate) via the aforementioned mind-body-spirit modalities, in 2021 Melanie became a reiki practitioner and added this deeply healing meditative method into her daily practices.

Melanie is also a member of Yoga Specialists, an inclusive community focused on making yoga accessible and she is insured through BeYogi.
